View attachment 1831587 My california white got her comb torn from the top of her head a few weeks ago. It was about a centimeter long and there was a section pulled off of her head. It was a bit wobbly as it wasn't hanging on to her, but it dried up and I let it heal, keeping a close eye on it. There was a bit of blood and we figured the "girls" were scrapping with a predator.

Today, she had more of it torn from her head starting in the back like someone tried to pull her top comb forward and it lifted off. Much more of it was lifted off and now she won't even walk. We brought her into the house and put food and water near her and I'm trying to figure out how to help her.
1) Do nothing, but offer a safe isolated area for her to be or
2) Try to heal the wound?
3) superglue? anyone tried that? I know they use it at vet clinics...
4) Apply neomycin?
5) Vet clinic?
6) Other ideas?

Help! I'm just nautious thinking about my baby! Any suggestions are helpful and it's never too late to offer advice because other owners will search the forum later like I just did... THANK YOU!!

I would put her somewhere safe and quiet, if it's possible for now until she finds her feet again. Could you get a picture for us?
Do you have a roo that might be being too rough? Or the other girls might be picking at it?

I know some have used superglue but I think that's more for holding skin together, on their side or wing or something that would normally need stitches. I know combs can be removed in a procedure called dubbing so, as long as it's not bleeding or being picked at she should be fine.

We suspect one of the other girls is picking on her and one is apparently very possessive of the roost where they lay all the eggs. I think it may be a "pecking order" thing. We've had them 2 years and never had a problem until this month. I'll keep you posted

She is most definitely being picked on

ow, wow. Personally I'd be inclined to remove it her comb all the way. I worry more than the average person about infection though so feel free to do something else. I just think it would be easier to treat all of the exposed cut skin without it in the way.

You should put polysporin on it at least and keep her out of reach of the others until it's healed.

Go to Walmart and get a pair of fiskars leather trimming shears. They’re like $15. Just cut the rest of it off. Since you have no location I’m guessing it’s hot out. I would isolate her by herself somewhere cool even if it’s in your house for a day WITHOUT WATER FOR THE FULL 24 HRS. Then just cut the rest off. You can dunk her head in ice water afterwards to help the blood clot. Apply pressure with a cold wet cloth if it continues to bleed. That’s it. She needs nothing else on it. No medicine of any kind. She will need to be kept separate while it heals though. It will scab within a day or so.
As soon as it stops bleeding give her food and water just like normal.
