Hi,
I'm Kristy in beautiful northeastern Washington state and I'm seriously thinking about getting some chickens this month. I know NOTHING about them, so I am here to learn before I succomb to those cute fluffy yellow chicks at the feed store. This is not on a whim, as we thought about it last spring also, but I think the time has come to have some fresh eggs!

I plan to build the coop with my children (14, 12 8) and incorporate it into our garden area (not running free in the garden though, because I think they would destroy it, right?). I thought it might be safer behind the deer fencing.

Anyway, I hope to learn a lot here from those with experience. Now off to browse the other threads! Kristy

Hi Kristy.

I am relatively new here but have found BYC to be a great place for information all about chickens.

I'm sure someone here can point you in the direction of what to get for your area.... Here in Texas i worry more bout the heat..... Other than that and a pesky raccoon it's pretty easy. I know i'm so thankful to have found BYC.

Welcome.....

While you will get a lot of advise here, nothing can compare to real, actual experiences you will have. Remember, sometimes something may not go right, but use it as a learning experience and keep going.
