I bought 2 pair of these geese last summer. thouht the breed was not too loud and not mean. well, it looks like I was sent 3 genders and one goose. early Feb. here in sw ga and the goose has laid a first egg. Not sure if it is the season but three of them will run at me and hiss and on occasion try to hit me with theirl wings. they have been quite aggressive and loud. they also will attack our dogs and chickens. not too happy with the breed or hatchery. am considering the pilgrim breed. any ideas, suggestions would be appreciated. hpeddy

They are in breeding season and what your seeing is normal behavior. Geese are very protective of their space mates and goslings. And don't tolerate anyone or thing getting into it. That said you can work with them and teach them how to behave. I have 2 geese Embden gander and a Toulouse goose. This is the time of year for loudness and personality extremes. My geese and dogs are not allowed to be outside together with out me there and I use a long bamboo pole to keep them from harassing the dogs. They are big bullies so if they start to charge the dogs I stop them by placing the pole in between them mop handle would work too. Chickens have learned to stay clear of them during this time of year and my geese have their own house so they can't pick on the ducks either. Toulouse are awesome birds if you decide to train them think about ordering some females to go with your ganders.

I have never had Pilgrim geese but all ganders are hormonal during breeding season.
