I read somewhere that in order to ease cleaning, someone put a small towel down over the grating so that all the yuckiness stays on the towel and they just pull the towel out and the rest of the incubator is clean or only needs mild attention. Is that a good idea? Has anyone else done that before? Does it cause a problem with the humidity or anything? I'm interested in doing it to cut down on clean up but didn't know if I was risking something by doing that.

I put paper towels over 2/3 of the wire and yes, it made a huge difference in clean up. Just don't let it get it wet at all or your humidity will sky rocket.

I put papertowels down, I imagine that would have the same effect. Its MUCH easier to clean
