I have been feeding my hens Dumor Layer from tractor supply for over a year. They are happy, heathy, and lay as they should. I have a local feed store that makes there own layer feed (also 17%). They local feed store is closer to my home and cheaper but I can not find any reviews on them. Does anyone have an opinion on tractor supply vs local feed stores in general? Thank you.

I've generally been happier with purchases from local feed stores than with TSC, but local feed stores can vary a lot. (so do individual TSC stores!)

As far as the feed -- if they're milling it themselves, it's almost certainly fresher than the Dumor. I see this as a big plus -- grains start to deteriorate as soon as they're ground, and none of the TSC stores I've been to do a very good job of rotating stock.

Can you get an ingredient list/guaranteed analysis from the local feed store?

We are still new to this but we like the local feed store because they will talk to us and seem to know what they are talking about. Plus we like helping support the little privet owned stores out.

I like supporting my local feed store, but always make sure it's fresh. Unfortunately, Tractor Supply probably has more traffic through and newer feed. The good thing about local places, though, is it's super easy to just ask.

Oh sorry did not mean to sound snotty, was hurrying to dinner when I made that post and did not read it before posting it. What I meant to say was. Luckily ours does carry the same as TSC and the price is the same.
