They were neat pets, and I enjoyed them. Tame, hand raised.
House chickens in the beginning. Walk in the yard, they would follow
you around.

Pure pets.

But they had no real point other than pleasing me.

I still have my flock of Rhode Islands. Good egg layers. So they have
a point to being here. But they aren't exactly the tamest chickens. And
don't turn on back on that roo.

So. I'm going to replace the Silkies. I'm just not sure what with yet.

What breed will the experts here recommend keeping? Both for egg laying,
and as pets. Looking for a nice gentle breed that lays a decent egg. White
or brown egg, fine.
 
I would go with Houdans. Gentle loving beautiful birds and good layers. I am going to get my eggs from ebay next year.
The seller has good reviews.
