My pullets are starting to lay and I plan to keep track all year of how many eggs each laid. I use a trail cam set on 10 second video every 4 seconds (when there's movement) hanging by the nest boxes. I can tell who is ready to lay by their investigation of the nest, and who actually went into and then came out of the nest singing the egg song. The time stamp even tells me when...
Here are some of the still shots from today
Goldie the EE going in at 8:12....
Coming out after after 5 hours...(She is going broody and I usually take her off the nest promptly, but today I was gone. At least she eventually left on her own!)
Brand new Barred Rock layer, Hattie...2nd day on the job!
Smudgie is also a newbie layer....
Sapphire, who started at 17 weeks, lays very steadily, often double yolkers..
And Winnie the Blue Laced Wyandotte is just a lookie lou! Maybe tomorrow...
I use this free yearly chart from here: https://www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2017/01/free-customizable-printable-egg.html
These are just the earliest layers....the rest are right on the brink of laying.
