My pullets are starting to lay and I plan to keep track all year of how many eggs each laid. I use a trail cam set on 10 second video every 4 seconds (when there's movement) hanging by the nest boxes. I can tell who is ready to lay by their investigation of the nest, and who actually went into and then came out of the nest singing the egg song. The time stamp even tells me when...
Here are some of the still shots from today

Goldie the EE going in at 8:12....

Coming out after after 5 hours...(She is going broody and I usually take her off the nest promptly, but today I was gone. At least she eventually left on her own!)

What happens to the non producers :old

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,hope the flooding did not cause you much problems.
They are all pullets hatched in March and those that haven't started yet are all at first point of lay. In a week or two I'll be up to my ears in eggs! Ask me that question in a few years and I'll have to make some decisions....

Cam is only showing who went in and out.......they can visit the nest but not lay. ;)
Need cameras inside the nests too :D
True, but the time stamp shows how long they were in there, whether it was a visit or an egg-laying event. Actually, I run out there every time I hear the triumphant egg song, and I remove every egg as soon as its laid, noting its particular color. So the camera isn't the only survelliance--but it sure is helping me identify who laid what at this time when they are all just starting to lay...
