So i have 5 hens very very close to laying. I got several training eggs and put them in the nest boxes. My SLW keeps pulling one of the eggs out into the coop. I have no idea why or how to get her to leave it in the box. ther are 3 nest boxes 2 with 2 training eggs and 1 with 1 training eggs. Is this normal how do you stop this?

Forgot to ask, what are you using for training eggs? Something with a little weight to them like golf balls or ceramic or wooden eggs or something really lightweight like plastic Easter eggs or ping pong balls? If it is plastic Easter eggs try filling them with something heavy like sand and gluing them shut to give them some weight.

Make sure the lip is high enough though. That’s often the problem.

Hmm maybe I put in too much bedding the lip is 4 inches but i put a bunch of bedding in. I can't raise the lid so not sure how small of opening they will use?

They're probably so intent on getting the nest rearranged that they're kicking the eggs out, it happens when they're younger, I agree heavier eggs will help, but I still find them occasionally on the floor.
