In our coop there is no door to close the coop off from the run. When we move them out there should I rig something to keep them only in the coop part for a while? They have already been out in it on watm afternoons so they have had some exposure to the set up and run freely in and out of the coop part.

My other question is since the coop doesn't have an actual floor should I go ahead and put shavings down over the grass or wait until they've eaten the grass down?

Thanks!

I don't see a reason to close them in the coop if they already go in and out as they please. I would let them have the grass as long as it's there.

Are your chickens safe from predators? Could a weasel get into the run and coop?

I shut my chickens in my coop at night because there are a lot of things that run around at night that like to eat chickens....weasels, skunks, coons, feral cats, big snakes, coyotes, bobcats etc etc etc....

If it was me I would make a door for the coop and install a floor asap.

This is what it looks like.

So thinking of moving my 6/7 week chicks out to their coop this week but we are supposed to have thunderstorms all week. Lows in the 60s and highs from mid 70s to low 80s. Should I wait or go ahead?
