transporting chickens

ok so our fair is coming up and i have to get my chickens there. I have a truck to take them in and the fair provides cages there. What do you use to get them there? A wire cage, crates, boxes...?

I have a large dog crate and a rectagular metal cage that might work but im worried theyll try to fly around and get hurt or be smushed in there. I have 9 birds to take. Should i put each in separtate crates? Suggestions?

??? cat carriers maybe, or try to find some boxes and poke holes in them. It would be bad if they were all in one large dog crate and somebody had a nervous poo. Better to have one dirty and not all of them I would think.
