transporting chicks

Dear fellow members,
i am soooo disappointed and sad i am actually crying while writing this.
i bought 100 chicks and half of them died reaching home.
i am so sad
i am new to this could you kindly advise as to how can i prevent the other from dying.

How were they transported? What were they in? What is the weather? How long is the trip?(time) Where did you get them from? (Breeder/farm/store) The more details you can give the more specific help we can give you. Pictures are best so we can see exactly what you mean.

they were transported in cardboard boxes with breathing holes in it my friend came to deposit it in my home. About one hour transport time, it was from reputed Farm.

Do you have a brooder set up, with the temp stabilized? or do you still have them in the transporting box?

There are a number of reasons. The most likely cause I can think of is heat. Small chicks don't do well with large temperature changes. Inside a vehicle and inside transport boxes the temperature can rise rapidly. Does the farm have any warranty on their stock? As long as you transported in a manner they approved they may replace/refund some of the cost. I would contact the supplier anyway, just to let them know. They may be experiencing an issue with flock health they should be told about.

also each and every day i will find one chick dead-sprawled as if trampled upon- i dont understand why..
the brooder is large enough and the temperature is stabilized the chicks dont stay close together as if cold..they are scattered all over the brooder seeming happy enough still i find dead in the morning.

Post pics of the brooder, the chicks, and their poop. Also post a list of what feed you use, any treats you give and any vitamins/supplements and medicine. Give your general location (state/province) and where the brooder is being kept.(house, barn, shed) Keep an eye on them and see if there's any changes in behavior ( lethargic, panting, sneezing etc) The more details you provide the better help you can get.
