I am planning on buying a peacock who is a long ways from home and can't have him in the vehicle, he will have to be in the back of the truck. Can I cut the tail shorter so he can fit in the cage I have, I trim my peahens wings so I know how and not to go too short but can I do this to his tail?

Yes, the train can be clipped. At this time of year he may even be molting. But to clip it-what a shame. The train can be closed and wrapped for transport, I think. There might be something online that would help.

@KsKingBee where's that nifty picture of the way you transport peacocks? ;)
This time of year most cocks have lost their trains, most large breeders pull all the train and tail feathers so that they grow back sooner and more evenly. We will be removing all the remaining train and tail feathers in the next couple of weeks. Either transport him with his train and wait until he molts or go ahead and cut the feathers and pull them in a few weeks when he does start to molt.
