My DH and I went down to Fredricksburg, VA a few days ago to check out the old town. We like old historic sites and such and we had never been there before. On the way down from NJ we go thru Delaware, Maryland an unto Virginia. Going thru those states I was looking around at peoples backyards thinking 'oh, those tool sheds would make good chicken coops, or gee that backyard would make a great run and you could put a chicken coop over there, etc" On the way back, (Oh yeah we did have fun seeing everything in Fredricksburg!) I kept thinking of all the people on BYC who live in the area, alot of them I couldn't remember off hand but some I did, when I was going thru Maryland, guess who I thought of?

mdbucks!

Anyway, I was in an antique shop and spotted an old (not real old) quilt with really nice colors and cute border and had about nine appliqued (sp) chickens on it, really well done for $75. I didn't buy it. The next day I kept thinking about it, but it was too late. Now I'm home thinking I shoulda bought it. Oh well, so much for that! But I did by a turkey cookie cutter for my collection!

I was doing the same thing this morning on my way to work!!
-oh, that would be a nice yard for chickens - look at that perfect shed - And for the first time I saw someone with chickens in their backyard!
They looked like buff orps - I'll have to keep an eye on that yard from now on

That's funny. Since i've added chickens to my life this summer, that's all i think when my husband and i are driving anywhere. i look in backyards and think "they've got room for chickens there".

As for that quilt, Lunachick, my motto is, if in doubt Buy It! If you decide you don't want it later on, you can always return it, or sell it, or give it as a gift. But you will always regret those cool things you passed up.

And I thought it was just me....I don't feel so alone now!!

I've got my eye on the cutest childs playhouse!! I drive by it every day and just dream!! I also look in backyards...but it's hard to do it well while driving!!

Oh My!!! I was scared to tell people when we went to Florida I was doing the same thing. And the area we stayed I did tell my husband, "I don't think anyone around here has chickens"

You dont know how close you really came. Going North on 95 just after rest area there is a big Statue "The Shrine our Lady of the Highways" overlooks I 95. That is about 3/4 of a mile from my house.

i drive for a living and I'm always looking for chicken houses, I think I know where most are between my house and all my deliveries. I also remember names of members when I see a town that is mentioned on BYC.

I have also ben known to take chickens for a ride in the cab of my truck. Actually met a member at shopping center near her house and got chickens, so I can honestly say I drove over 120 mile each way to get some chickens. Also have detoured to get DE and Feed for chicks. (I get paid by the load not by the hour so its not costing the boss extra.)
