My girls are a month old and I want to start giving them goodies from our kitchen (leftovers/scraps). How do I start doing this? Every time I put something out for them in the brooder, they just peck around at it and them leave it alone. What am I doing wrong? Are they not old enough yet? Do I need to chop it up fine? What are the best things to start with? I've read about yogurt. Any other ideas/suggestions?

I'm new too but I have tried a few new things for my girls. I have boiled an egg, cut it in half and chopped it finely, only feeding half an egg at a time to 5 hen chicks that are 5 weeks old. They loved it and played keep away with the larger pieces. I have also started sprinkling sunflower seeds (no shell) and raw oatmeal around the shavings to help them practice foraging. I did offer yogurt and about 3 of them were into it. I kept waiting for them to fling it around but perhaps they will do this when they are older...no rush!
They were most definitely not interested in the romaine lettuce. I will try again in a week or so. At this age, i am chopping everything into tiny pieces to help them "try it out". Once they get older, they can tear things apart as I have read that they do!
