Treating Backyard?

I have a new golden retriever puppy that even after Frontline and a cap from the Vet is still covered in fleas. I am really in need of treating my backyard, but absolutely cannot do anything that would jeopardize my chickens or even my own health from eating eggs that may have gotten chemicals in it. Kind of defeats the purpose of "farm fresh eggs."

My question is if there is anything that I can use to treat my backyard for ticks/fleas that is perfectly safe for both my chickens and other birds that may come into my yard. It's getting to be very necessary, but I just don't know what to do!

I hear diatomauces earth works. (food grade only) I just got some myself to try in our yard & to give to all our animals. It cheap & worth a try. Good luck!!

I am new to this site but I have been reaserching the same things as I have 2 dogs 2 cats and now 7 pulletts, I myself am using
diatomaceous earth (DE) Food grade from my local feed store. Here are some links I have read on.

Not doubting you, but are you sure you used The frontline right? It should kill them as soon as they bite him and drop off. My vet had us use it this year, due to the mild winter we had, he said that it is going to be bad this year. I still haven't seen any. You should probably give job a good flea bath, fleas can make a puppy anemic, very quickly. Good luck

The problem with the flea pill is the flea still has to bite the dog and it takes time to wipe out a population. If your yard is infested heavily, the pup would be better off with a flea deterent. I once used head and shoulders original on my dog and it killed all his fleas and the smell in his coat kept them off him for quite a while.

Pyrethrin is an another alternative to DE.

You could also get pennyroal oil and mix it with water to spray in the yard. Some people put pennyroyal on the dogs collar, but this has mixed results. Pennyroyal is also not supposed to used by pregnant women...dont know why... I had some and it stinks pretty bad: very strong medicinal smell.

I'm a groomer and fleas have built up a tolerance to frontline if you ask me. Trifecta is good it's a spot on or comfortis which is a once a month pill. I use comfortis on my large dogs.
Spelling on those two meds could very well be wrong lol

That is what we are, Trifecta. We also bought a strong flea drop for our inside cat. I HATE FLEAS. Once they get in your house the are a mess to get rid of them. Years ago my kids bought a stray cat home and hid it. It was covered in fleas, then the apt. Got covered in fleas, so bad I moved and left almost everything behind.
