Hi all,

I have a small lice issue - as far as I can tell it seems to only be affecting two of my roosters, but obviously I will treat the whole flock.

My issue is, it’s cold outside - I live in New England, and it is currently around freezing to slightly below.

I have Elector PSP, but would it be advisable to use that when it’s so cold? I also have ivermectin, would that work?

I really don’t want to use permethrin as I have a lot of cats as well. I’m worried about it affecting them.

Ivermectin might work. Do you have the 5% pour on? We used a drop on the necks of our silkies for SLM (scaley leg mites), but for larger chickens 2-3 drops probably. Repeat in 10 days and there's an egg withdrawal with that of 14 days I believe. We didn't abide by that though as hubby eats the eggs no matter.

Can you keep the cats out of the coop for 24 hours? I'd rather use the Permethrin for lice or mites if I had a choice. If using the powder, you'd be doing the chickens and the entire coop.

I’m pretty sure it’s the 5%, but definitely pour on! My girls aren’t laying eggs right now, so that’s not a huge concern for me.

Haha, the cats don’t even go outside, I’m just the worlds most paranoid cat owner. I might just use the powder and wear one of those coveralls to make sure I’m not bringing any of the permethrin in.
