I have had several chickens come down with an eye infection. I was able to aggressively treat my most cuddly rooster successfully with Terramycin over a few weeks because he is easy to pick up and likes to be held. I do know we have Gallibacterium Anatis in our flock and have dealt with some ongoing respiratory issues so it's possible the eye issues are related.
I was treating another rooster similarly, but he's not as easy to pick up and extremely squirmy. He doesn't like the Terramycin and acts like it's hurting him. I also tried a mild silver solution, but he had a similar reaction and because I couldn't really find an authoritative recipe, it seemed risky to continue for long. I now have a hen with an eye infection that often sleeps right next to this rooster. So....this may be a systemic issue that crops up when certain chickens are stressed or in close contact.
I am out of Terramycin and think eye drops are a LOT easier. I called my local farm vet but he will only prescribe eye drop medication if I bring someone in for an appointment, even though I've spent thousands of dollars with them in the past couple years and they know all the issues. It's an hour away, super expensive and I'd really like to try other things first.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Recommendations for eye drops that work well on poultry?
Pic for attention for now, but will try to grab some good photos of what's going on.
