You just answered a question that occurred to me late last night. I gave them the strawberry tops, very finely diced so there were probably at least 4-5 pieces for each chick.
They didn't all grab a piece. One grabbed a piece and ran around squeaking while everyone chased. It seemed to make it easier for them to eat because they pulled it apart between them. But I've been wondering ... if you wanna grab a treat and eat it before anyone finds out and takes it from you, why would you announce it with a special squeak? They make that noise constantly while running with treats.
This continued for a few hours, while the strawberry bits that could have been eaten were ignored, only to be picked up and fought over one by one.
Chickens are weird.
But you gotta love 'em!
