Treats For Chicks and Chickens

Personally, for chickens and pullets, unflavored plain yogurt and sunflower seeds are a big hit. My friend gives her chickens mealworms and they go nuts for them. In the winter, if you aren't grossed out, plain cooked chicken, turkey and pork scraps (cut small) are nice for them. My chickens go crazy for chicken... not wrong at all.

For more treats, go to Buff Hooligan's article. It has all of the edible and unedible foods for chicks and chickens. (link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/chicken-treat-chart—the-best-treats-for-backyard-chickens.47738/ )

OATMEAL!!! cooked or raw, chickens love it so much. You can just buy the oatmeal that comes in a box with little packets and cook it with water instead of milk.

Also, I no its not in season but when fall rolls around and after fall take your leftover pumpkin cut it up into chunks and they will peck and eat all of the fruit off of it and leave the rind. They love it so much. Also, they love veggie greens like kale, lettuce, Swiss chard, etc. Also tomatoes

Found a list of stuff on here somewhere what chicks like and I read they like fine grated cheese.
I tried that today and ho-Lee-cow the chicks go absolutely nuts for it.
The older ones like it but aren't as crazy for it. It's total mayhem, with the little ones, lol
I've got a can of pennies I'm shaking to train them to come for cheese so I can put them up early. I don't think it will take but 1-2 more days and they would run a mile for it.

Hey! Haven’t posted a thread in a while....:D
Anyone know any treats I can give to chicks or chickens?
The best treat that is available for chickens is a whole flock or breeder ration and nothing else. Treats are unfortunately viewed by to many chicken keepers as a sop to atone for eating their hens' eggs.

why are you such a fan of processed chicken feed?

I am not a fan of processed chicken feed, but today so many people know so little about a chickens' nutritional needs that not 1 in a 1,000 could be expected to make an informed decisions about what to feed their fowl.

I am afraid that we are looking at a case in point.

I think "treating" your chickens is fun, while I know they should be eating crumbles only...

The biggest hits so far with our chickens:
Watermelon and rinds
Fresh sweet corn cobs, shucked
Tender greens like turnip, kale, or mustard greens
Raw ground beef
The big black crickets you find under rocks and stuff
Suet nuggets
Millet
Strawberries
Grapes on the vine, an especially loved treat!!
