Me and my family are thinking about getting a few hens to keep in our large backyard. We want to free range them but we have several large cypress tress growing along our chainlink fence. Our concern is that the chickens will climb the trees and jump over the fence. What should we do to prevent this? What should we do if it does happen? Will the chickens even do that?

If the chickens can get up into the trees they will and will fly over the fence. Since the trees are cypress they may be to dense for them to get into. If you chickens fly over from climbing the tree they most likely will not be able to get back in the same.

Our trees are not to dense at the bottom. Would it fix the problem if we cut off the lower branches?

We have a four foot chain link fence. The trees are dead at the bottom as you can see. The trees go almost all the way around our yard against the fence.
