We frequently have 100+ degree days during the summer (California). I would like to plant some dwarf fruit trees or shrub trees in our chicken run to create shade and possibly grow fruit. Are there any trees that my chickens will not usually eat?

I plan to protect the trunk with hardware cloth, but it would be nice not to worry about the chickens eating our trees and/or fruit.

they will eat/ peck at most things, and while they love fruit trees they will also eat the fruit. they arnt all the keen on citrus fruits though. a great seasonal one that we have found is grapes. we had an older vine ( maybe 8 years old) that had gotten away on us and the chickens loved to climb on it and sit under it though they also loved to eat its leaves so in some places it was bald . I think that you will just have to pick something that suits what you want and get the fruit ( if it bares fruit) before the chickens do
