Trees for chickens

I'm getting into chicken raising for the first time. I plan to have 4-6 birds in a yard of about 20' by 10', with a coop of 5' by 5'. The coop will be in the centre, so there will be room at either end for a small fruit/nut tree. What kind of trees would my chooks like me to plant?

Fruit or nut trees are a great way to feed the birds, and give them shade.

Mulberry trees are wonderful shade, grow relatively quickly, and last but not least- YUMMY berries!!

With any type of berry or nut tree you want to be sure the gals aren't eating soooooo many that they are neglecting getting enough calcium for laying, so definitely be sure to have enough oyster shell offered in prominent areas.

We have 2 white Mulberry trees bordering our yard and our chickens are in LOVE.

They are edible for humans too and taste like a mix between a raspberry and a melon. They don't taste as super sweet and flavorful as a raspberry but still wonderful when fully ripe.
