Okay, so my duckling has got to the point where she is scratching her own feet (and my skin) is it okay to trim her nails? I've had parakeets for over 20 years so know how to, but what is the best way to hold her? she's 3 weeks now so getting big. Not a 1 handed job anymore!! tyia

I would not clip a ducklings toenails! The risk of injuring the toe is very high and as we all know duck(lings) love to get their feet dirty. I would rather offer her some rough surface to run on, so that the toenails will file off in a natural way. Have her walk over a concrete surface, for example.

I tried the file first, but it made her more stressed. She has pale nails so can see the quick pretty easily. I just trimmed the last mm to blunt them so she wouldn't scratch her feet anymore. Only did middle ones as others weren't too bad. Thanks all for replies. much appreciated.
