Currently I have two white black tailed Japanese chicks and a silver sebright. Within the last few days I noted an odd behavior in one of the WBTJ chicks and now both of them are doing it. They start by opening their mouth and shaking their head, and then start backing up, with their heads lowered (and still shaking), all the while chirping alarming loud. They don't stop backing up until they hit the side of the tank. then they just lay with their head on the ground, mouths open, for about 10-20 seconds afterwards. In between these bouts they do feed and drink water, although they do not seem as energetic as the sebright chick. I thought their crops might be impacted, but when I felt them (about 20 minutes ago), they were completely empty, which is shocking to me since they've had food all day and the Sebright's crop is completely full. I have not noticed any weird discharges, smells or swollen joints on them. From time to time, they seem to be breathing with their mouths open, but it does not last long. I can't seem to find any type of disease description that quite describes what I'm seeing. Can anybody help with this?
