Hello!
Our buff orpington has been broody for a full 3 wks now. Last night after dark (around 10:30p) we slipped 6 day-old chicks under her. We have had success like this before, with another broody. This Buff has never hatched out any eggs before, so she would be a be a new mama hen. She did notice when we added them, was pecking at them quite a bit. Then her voice changed a bit and we thought all was well.
We checked in just this morning after dawn. Only 1 chick was under her, all the others cold and huddled in the corner. We brought them all back inside to warm them up under a heat lamp. We fear that the trick did not work.
Should we try again? Do we hafta wait until dark again?
Now the broody Buff is wandering around, looking unsettled? we dont know how to proceed.
If anyone has any more specific advice, it would be much appreciated
Thanks
