...and my broody just rejected the chick. The navel closed and just had a little dried thing hanging off which I've read is fine, and my broody kept leaning out like she really wanted the thing that was peeping...but then she hates it as soon as it's under her. Old nasty shell? Oh she'll take that under her happily, just not the thing that came out of it. I don't get it. She's been so keen on chick sounds I was worried she might leave the nest to try to find where the peeping was coming from this evening. If she, this chick(s), and I have all gone through this whole mess just to find out she's a "bad" broody that hates hatched chicks, then I don't know what to do. I mean, I can set the chicks up in a brooder with heat, that's no issue. But then I don't know how to get my broody being not broody without her completely freaking out...which is the whole reason I gave her a new set of eggs this late in the year. What a rubbish day.
