Hi, I have a 3 week old runner duck, a one day old duck has hatched he’s had 24 hours on his own and I’ve tried to introduce them to each other (in a seperate cage so no one is being attached to his home)
The runner duck at first seemed scared then completely turned and pecked hard at the smaller duck, he pecked his foot so hard the poor thing fell over, I’ve separated them again now but how do I introduce them?
As they will eventually be living together?
How long should I wait?
So I keep trying for small amounts of time daily?

Place in the same brooder but make some kind of separation up so they can see each other. I had this situation last year when I had 3 week old Runners and Runners hatching so to give the young ones time to get up on their legs real good and time for the older ones to get use to the young ones. By end of first week with time together with supervision they were all piled on top of each other happy as can be. I used a piece of hardware cloth wrapped the edges in gorilla tape for safety and used it to separate the young one from the older 2.

I might give this little guy another 24 hours on his own and then put them in the same brooder, but seperate....there is a huge difference in size between these two

So I’ve put them in the same brooder today and separated them with a net, the big duck is still trying very hard to peck at the little one
How long should I expect this to last?
