Trying to switch from junk to healthy but need help.

Thanks for all the replies and the links. I'll definitely check all the links out. My husband has lost weight before when he was a teenager and got down to 190lbs. and lifted weights daily while running 8 miles. Now is a little harder since he works all the time and cause of me. With my bad eating habits it makes it hard for him to lose weight cause he wants what I'm having. Lately if I decide I want to go get something from a fast food place he will go to this burrito place across the road that has freshly cooked meat and fresh veggies all laid out that he can go through and tell them what he wants on his burrito. I know the shell would be unhealthy but it is full of healthy stuff compared to if he went into the fast food place that I went into. I have some sweets in our room but I have them in the dresser so they aren't out in the open so he doesn't eat them. I like to have a sweet each day but since I can't get into the dresser with him in the room it has cut me down on eating to much junk so I have to look for something else and go for some no sugar added apple sauce. The soda I've cut down to only 1 can vs. the 3 I was drinking daily. Trying to get myself off the caffeine. Tried to cut the soda cold turkey but was having really horrible headaches but limiting myself to 1 can has reduced the headaches and gotten me to drink more water. I'll have to do the 3 corner grocery store diet. One corner of our store is full of donuts, ice cream cakes, and other baked sweets.

I wanted to say that Melissa Darabian has a show on food network called $10 dinners. The premise is 4 people for $10. She focuses on busy Mom's who want to have easy, quick dishes that are healthy and flavorful. Might be a good place to start if you dont have a lot of cooking experience. The website has recipes. I wouldnt say they are gourmet, but they are budget friendly and do not require a high level of cooking expertise.

While it is a great goal to get all of your nutrients in a day, you can also look at your diet as an average. Some days you may eat more vitamin C than others, for example. As long as that averages out over a couple weeks, that is fine. Variation in your diet is very healthy.

I had to work with my husband when we got together, and it was frustrating. I found that the best thing for us was just to slowly add new foods, and to keep trying them. You build a taste for foods. With children, they say to offer foods 10-20 times before they start to like it. Men aren't so different.

It also helps to find healthier options of your favorite foods. Try making pizza with whole wheat crust instead of white. Make chocolate chip cookies instead of buying cookies at the store that have trans fats. Every little bit helps. You'll find after awhile that you won't crave the junk food. In fact, the junk food will taste pretty gross and make you feel gross.

For recipes and ideas, I really like Clean Eating and Eating Well magazines.

Tons of great suggestions...
the only thing I can add is, try to eliminate high fructose corn syrup from the food you eat. It is amazing how they sneak that into everything -- dill pickles, ketchup, bread, etc. and they are finding high fructose corn syrup breaks down in the body in a manner that encourages a higher weight gain than regular table sugar does.

It is great that you are willing to support your dh by changing your diet!! May you have many happy years together!

One of the first things I thought while reading your post is that you are going to have to learn how to eat more veggies. You just aren't going to get all the vitamins you need from peas drowned in a fatty sauce to cover the taste. Try them raw try them cooked in different ways and find what works for you. Roasting veggies will bring out an incredible sweetness in just about any of them by the way and doesn't take much oil or seasoning.
The second thing I thought is why hasn't anyone told this girl how to scramble an egg yet? Break your eggs into a bowl add a tablespoon or so of milk or water, salt and pepper if you want and whip it up with a fork or whisk. You want it to combine really well and maybe even get a little bubbly. Pour into a hot skillet (preferably non-stick) that has been sprayed with a little Pam. Then it kind of depends on how you like them... push the cooked stuff toward the center to make room for the uncooked liquid egg until all are cooked... some people like them a bit wet and barely cooked... I like mine scrambled hard, sometimes I don't even move them in the pan until they are totally cooked at the bottom at which point I just flip them. I saw a great post with pictures and all once, but couldn't find it just now when I looked. If you don't even want to use the stove though try searching the forum for scrambled eggs, I found several posts on how to do it in the microwave.
Might I suggest you find a local cooking class? You sound like you need a little confidence in the kitchen.
