I've seen so many posts on this board about the abuse that's going on in TSC stores to the day old chickens, ducks and turkeys. I go to TSC at least once a week, and HAD to check on the birds to see how they were. I was really impressed!

The bedding was fairly clean, the lights operating, no corpses, the water looked like it had been freshened up but the ducks messed it up. In short, just like what I would have at my house. From all the horror stories here, I just wanted to say that some TSC's take care of their chicks!

Just my thoughts on the matter!

You're right, they do-it depends on the store and the individuals rather than the company as a whole. JMO.

Same here!! I was really impressed with ours!!

The one nearby us is pretty good too. Quite a few of the employees have chickens or other livestock and offer advice to customers

I agree, the one in Fenton stays pretty clean, but just about as soon as they start unpacking their next shipment of chicks they are gone. Folks are waiting on em and I havn't seen a duckie in fenton going on 3 years now cuz they sell out too fast.

I just went to TSC today and the chicks and ducklings had excellent conditions. Two small bantams were even protected from the others by being placed in a shoebox under the edge of the light with their own food and water. They may have been sick (they were sleeping the whole time--I could see them breathing so I knew they weren't dead) but at least someone had the sense to separate them.

I work in retail, and I think with any retail chain, they wouldn't have no rules on up keep of chicks and such- They probably have some sort of "way to do things" list/training course somewhere.. Its just certain stores may not uphold the standards of the company as well as others. I've worked in a supermarket for 5 years now, and I've worked in other stores for "favors" on occasion- and we all have the same exact "rules to follow" they clearly did things WAY differently than we do. Its just going to depend on each individual store, not the chain as a whole. I still think its crap that my TSC has a 12 chick/duck minimum, where I've heard others its as low as 3 minimum! I don't need 12 more! lol. Eventhough Id love 12 more.

Our TSC has a 6 chick min. The TSC I have been to all have had clean, well fed, and watered bins they keep the chicks in. I has to be hard keeping them clean while waiting on customers at the same time. It take me a few hours a day just keeping my pens clean at home, and I'm not waiting on anybody. Even my hubby leaves me alone.

I have a clerk at TSC give me some chicks that were in poor condition, sadly they did not make it. Atleast she give them a chance.
