I have a one year old black silkie with a large growth on her chest. She plucked all the feathers off it and now it looks like a half of a baseball. It sits on top of her breat bone. What do you wonderful chicken people think it could be? The other silkie and the two polish hens are fine.

Is it her crop? If so, it's normal.

The crop fills up with food like a pocket and slowly digests over time. It is part of her functioning digestion system.

The only way to empty the crop is to stop feeding her if you think it is impacted. Search the ER forum for impacted crop. I have several posts with instructions on how to work through it.

If you are worried about the feather loss - is she molting? look her over well do you see mites or lice?

I have a Turken that has the same thing... but you can see it all the time because she has no feathers there. We thought all the time that it was a big tumor... gross. We even named her fugly because of the way she looked. But I've noticed that if you watch her, the "tumor" will be very small in the morning. Then she will go eat for while and then it might be really big. I think the other post was correct. I think it has something to do with the crop... maybe sometimes its really full, and sometimes not. Watch the size of it when she eats.

I just lost a chicken to an impacted crop, no fun. How do I find Miss Prissy's solutions to impacted crop. I am fearful of it happening again and will definately treat at home rather than vet next time.
