Hi everyone!!!

It is time to discuss our turkey plans for this year.

A few chat idea starters could be:

-How many turkeys do you have?
-How many poults do you plan on hatching?
-What breeds do you want/have?
-where are you getting your eggs from?
-will you be raising your turkeys for meat?
-will you be raising them for pets, etc?
-what type of housing are you going to use for your birds?
-what will you feed them?
-will you be using an incubator to hatch your eggs?
-do you want your hens to be broody so they can hatch eggs?
-what kinds of waterers, feeders,etc will you be using?

Please feel free to post anything you want about your turkeys, past, or present, to include posting pictures of your precious babies. Our discussion about turkeys isn't limited to the topics above. If you need help, tips, just feel free to ask on this thread and lay back and wait for our talented turkey experts. just remember that no question or idea is dumb, don't be afraid to ask something.

We are all turkey lovers here and I know from experience on here that they are more than willing to help. We are all here to learn from eachother.

Hello!

No turkeys yet, but we're hoping to get some flock guardians... Currently doing research on the best breeds for the purpose.

We will probably keep a tom and two or three hens... No idea about the finer details like feed or housing, but we're working on it!

I look forward to hearing about everyone's turkeys.

I am wanting to try heritage turkeys. I am looking at White Holland turkeys. Anyone have experience with white Hollands from Porter's? Are they close to standard or much smaller? Would you suggest white hollands or different breed? We want to raise our own birds for meat with a sustainable flock. Thoughts?

Turk, my big boy. Unbelievable that last year he use to sit on my shoulder. Right now I've 3 Bourbon Reds (& 3BR pouts left) 1Blue Slate & a Rusty Black. We went to a poultry show last month; my DH saw a Royal Palm and that's what he wants for next yr. We've been selling poults for 2 yrs now and eating the surplus.

How's things?

does anyone have an idea on which breed(s) of turkeys you are getting?

We definitely want to get a heritage breed. We're leaning toward Narragansett.
The only source we know of is hatcheries, so we would have to order SR and we'd keep the best jake as our tom and pretty much all the hens. The rest of the jakes would be dinner.
