Turkey care

Why is this necessary? Are they more likely to get worms than any of my other outdoor animals?

all outdoor animals get worms. They pick them up from the dirt, we worm ALL of our birds, chickens, phesants , turkeys, all of them.
We do it twice a year with wormer that can simply be added to their drinking water to simplify things, most any poultry supply place will have a wide array of wormers to chose from.

As for the roost and and house and such.
Our wild will roost just as high as they can go. The royal palms will too.
Ours are 2x4 's mounted on 12 foot tall 4x4 post about 6-8 feet up.
Keep in mind, this protects them from nocturnal preditors, so higher is better especially if they are keep free range.
All of ours dig out holes to nest in, the royal will use a nest box from time to time, but usually dig a hole behind it.
And the only way any of them will enter any form of a shelter is if you pour their food in it. Aside from that, they always stay outside.
Even in the nastiest rainy, cold or hot weather.

You're going to love them. With the basic, est of care they are one of the hardiest birds you can keep. If you live in the US pretty much no weather you will experience is too extreme for them.

Good luck with them,
Aubrey
