Turkey coops?

I'm also thinking of getting turkeys and think the chicken coop might be too small for chickens and turkeys. These plans look very nice, but I have a question before I build. Do you have to worry about nighttime critters getting your turkeys? We have possums and an occasional raccoon. Would the turkeys be safe with just the roosts? Can't the predators climb up to get them? Our yard is fenced against dogs and big critters, but it seems like the smaller ones have no trouble climbing a six foot fence!

My turkeys completely free range. We have possums, coons, bobcats, coyotes, etc., and our pond is probably a big draw for them, but we very rarely have a problem. We have three Great Pyrs and a black lab that is better at predator control than any of the Pyrs. We have surrounded our property with electric fencing on the inside of conventional fencing running at 3 joules and 15,000 volts.

But we will be moving the turkeys to a different area where they are likely to be more vulnerable, so we will begin using electric poultry netting in conjunction with the movable roost.

Thank you everyone for the information. That shelter looks like a good idea. Will it be enclosed as well? or is the entire thing open with maybe some wire around it? I was thinking of some kind of building to keep the birds out of the bad weather. I'm just surprised I've never seen a turkey coop. Has anyone else? If anyone has pictures of there turkey structures please post them. I would love to see the different styles. I also have to figure out how much room the turkeys need when fenced. I'm sure I will free range the turkeys eventually. I have to get some first but I'm just doing my research right now.

You can raise turkeys basically the same as you do chickens, just as long as everything is large enough for them.....

There's a lot of different ways to do it, none of them being right or wrong, just different people's approaches.... Some people let theirs free range and roost outdoors, others pen them up at night, etc....

hit there. I was thinking of doing the same and keeping my chickens and turkeys all together in the same free range space and have two coops they can choose between. But how do you keep them gfrpm eating each others food? I knwo right now my chicks both get different feed.. what happens in the end when they grow up adn go outside?

Could you build this thing and then cover with hardware cloth for protection? No need for any shelter from winds in winter? (I'm in West Virginia--we have snow, and cold occasionally to zero or even slightly below.)
