I have 2 Red Burbon Turkey babies. I am building their coup. They have a 60' x 60' yard with 7 foot metal fence. My question is should I put a wood floor in the coup like I have in my hen house or should it be dirt. I live in florida and I plan to have deep wire cloth in the ground to stop anything from digging into it if I do do dirt. Suggestions please on what is best for the birds. They are pets never food.

My turkey shed has a sand floor. I scoop out the droppings daily, and we top off the sand as needed. Simplest system in my opinion.

Zoomukeeper, I live further to the west in the panhandle, little less sand, same fire ants. 60x60 with 7 foot fence sounds like are great place for a couple of turkeys (and room to expand the flock once you get to love turkeys). You will need to clip their wings, a 7 foot fence won't phase a turkey on its way out of the area (getting back into the area it will prove to be an unsurmountable obstacle).
