Turkey eating sand ?

Why are my turkeys eating sand answers will be greatly appreciated.

Do they have access to grit all the time? All birds need grit to be able to grind food up in their gizzards to properly digest since they don't have teeth. If they don't have adequate grit they may be eating sand instead.

That and turkeys require larger grit than similar aged chickens.
#4 poultry grit is about 3/8" and is for turkeys over 8 weeks of age.
