I have a 7 month old female bronze turkey who has developed strange balance/walking/coordination issues. I've included a video. When she tries to walk, she almost falls forward on her toes, holds her tail up for balance and drops her wings to steady herself. When I brought her in to our screened porch, she made her way- walking this way- to a corner where she was able to put her against the wall and steady herself to sit down. She will be calm and quiet then. I've got her in an isolated pen now and she does the same. As long as she's sitting down or against something, she seems okay.

The only thing I can compare it to is vestibular disease which I've seen in very old dogs. Or perhaps it is an inner ear infection? I've searched and searched, but I can't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Added: I can't upload a video it seems, so I've attached a screenshot from it. This is her after taking a step and trying to balance.

You have to first post your video to a video hosting site such as YouTube. Once you have the URL of the hosted video you can paste that into the message box and BYC will make the connection. BYC does not host videos.

Thanks!

I have a hen that is doing the same thing. Has there been an further thoughts on the cause? I have scoured the internet looking for answers and have so far not found anything

I'm here researching this very condition. This afternoon my 2-yr old female Spanish Black turkey was lurching back and forth trying to keep her balance. And getting picked on by the other female. I provided fresh water and she went right to it and drank several times. 20 minutes later she was better, still not steady, but staying upright.

Dehydration, inner ear infection and/or blow to head are among the possible causes.
