Turkey growing advice needed - want to sell a few for Thanksgiving

I went to a poulty auction yesterday. Most of the time the only time you see a turkey at this auction is if I bring one or the week before Thanksgiving when everyone brings them. Most of the time they are only BB turkeys. For some reason the Bronze always sell higher than the white by maybe $20. Because the heritage turkeys are smaller they never got the big money. It looks like some things are changing. This year I see a lot of heritage turkeys all year long. I see at least 6 new turkey breeders at the sale. Buyers are still not educated. They know the heritage turkeys taste good but they still do not know how to pick a good bird. I seen old birds with 5 inch beards sell for $70. They still like the bronze turkeys over white. I tried the midget whites once and they did not sell good. Any white turkey just does not sell good here, for some reason. I know some religions will only eat black birds when it comes to chicken. Who knew? So yesterdays sale must have had 25-30 turkeys from 6 different sellers. They were all colors and sizes. Not one was a broad breasted turkey. The price was all about size. The small ones like the Royal Palms went for the least. The big Standard Bronze went for the most. They were with some other colors that were close to the same size. The rare colors didn't seem to sell for anymore than any other color. Size did matter with the slight edge for a bronze turkey. I will never be able to figure out the market because it is always changing.
