I am planning to get a 1/2 dozen bourbon red turkey chicks in June. I plan to keep them through the winter. We often get a lot of snow and below zero temps at times. Just wondering what type of shelter I need. I see many pics on-line, but they are all open to the elements except for the roof. I think they will need more enclosure then that. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Mine have an open door barn 24x60 they can roost in. An 8 x 16 chicken house.

Most of time they roost on the panel fence I have up or trees in the fencerow.

As long as they can get out of strong winds and terribly bad weather the will be fine.

This winter wasn't bad. But have seen mine roost outside in below zero temps. Only if it was below zero and howling winds would a few go in the barn or chicken house.

Unless you confine them nightly to the shelter they will roost where they please usually every place you don't want them too.

Thank you.I've been told turkeys have a mind of their own and often roost in trees. I'm concerned about preditors, so hope I can train them to go in at night. I'm only starting with 6.
