Turkey Pens

1/2" pvc spaced about 4' apart. Not sure about snow load at that rate, but you could easily go to 2' spacing and depending on the cover material you used I would think it would be fine. i used the patio cloth at lowes it comes in 6' x 40 ' lengths for $42.00

Thanks - up here in VT I went with the cattle panels since I knew they could handle snow but at 35 bucks a panel, I need something a little cheaper. I think I will look into the PVC for my spring meat bird run - they wont be concerned with snow. Also thinking maybe for the summer turkeys this could work - most of them will also not be around for winter.
Your set up looks great - thanks again for sharing.

I have yet to let mine free range - they are young so had a huge fenced run before they moved to the hoop/coop where they are now. I have two major concerns. Firstly we have lots of wild turkey all about our property and after investing so much I would be quite unhappy if they left! Secondly we have on dog who cant be loose while the chickens free range (he plays too rough - bad endings) so if the turkeys gave me a hard time about going back i(and then remained out for a long time) then there is a chance they might get nabbed before they could fly to safety. Any ideas?

most likely if you feed them well the turkeys will not leave. As far as the dog try to put a muzzle on him and put him in with the turkeys for a while so he can sniff and see what happens.

I’ll show you some pictures of what I have done for pens using chain link panels, flight netting, a portable garage frame and very heavy truck tarp. I have just watched the want ads and picked up what I can find where I can find it. Some times I have to think for a while to figure out how best I can put it together for something usable. My poor wife thinks I’ve lost my mind when I haul something home on the trailer.

The snow slid off the chicken coop this winter and took out some fight netting and rain gutter so I’ll have to put it back up but during the winter they are all free range and sleep on top of the netting supports and shelters anyway!

The center suports for the netting are wire spools with a post in the center hole.

Built an end wall in each end of portable garage frame!

Covered the frame with a very heavy Trucker tarp!

I devided the encloser in half with a straw wall!

Also have a couple of Fiberglass Truck Air Deflectors that I picked up "FREE" that make great shelters!

The Pens for the turkeys very in size but are roughly 14' Wide X 30' Long with a 10' X 10' enclosure!

I have never keep more than 6 birds in each pen

Kekko, I love your setup. Great idea using the spools as support. I recently received 7 large spools from someone on Craigslist and I possibly may do the same thing as you did. Thanks for posting.
