I bought a bronze turkey poult from my local store yesterday, by the time I got it home he was laying on his side kicked and could not stand or hold his head up. I immediately put it in the brooder under the heat lamp and tried to give him water with electrolytes in it and to no avail. He took a turn for the worse and struggled to breath before passing away an hour later...what caused this? I am getting another one but do not want to make the same mistake . He was my mother's day

How old was the poult? Where do you live?
Did you keep it warm on the way home?
Why are you only having a single poult?
Turkey poults aren't nearly as rugged and precocious as chicks.

How long was the drive home? What are the temperatures like?

A turkey poult on its own might get really stressed out, they are not hardy like chicken chicks. A poult on its own cannot hold its heat very well either because it has no other poults to huddle with.

I live in ky, it was warm, maybe not as warm as directly under a heat lamp and there were 5 other turkey poults and a chick, they were 2 days old.

Temps were in the 80s, and my drive was about an hour, he had 5 other poults and a chick with him

Sorry to hear that! I doubt it was anything you did or didn't do basically just bad timing.
