I have 2 day old silent poult. No peeping at all. Other wise healthy and lively. Looks like its chriping but no sounds. Did I get lucky? Or is this a sign of something bad?

Interesting... turkeys are so mysterious sometimes... I had only had this happen once... it was on a shipped egg, the baby hatched on its own but couldn't make any sounds. It looked like it was gasping for air... it only lived about 8 hours, sadly and towards the end you could hear its lungs rattling. I think it might've inhaled some fluids from the egg or something.

Last year, I had a rather silent poult. He was different, though, he always seemed to have trouble breathing, but he could definitely peep. His little sinus cavity (or whatever its called lol) would always puff out with every breath he took. He lived to about 6 weeks, and one day when I came home from work I saw him, away from everyone else, just walking in circles. I went in the pen to get him, and he walked right into my leg, then threw his head back and sat down. It was horrible, and I wish I knew what to do... I quarantined him, but he passed away later that evening. I think he might've had a stroke while I was at work. It was very odd.

Anyways, I don't mean to frighten you... but turkey poults can be tricky. Maybe he just hasn't figured it out yet? :) How is your baby doing now?

Happy and healthy :) just looks as if its gasping for air like you said. But mine is eating and drinking. Oddly it takes to me more than its siblings. I guess since I'm quite it like it ha. Any who we are all well. So do you think its genetic?

Weird! I'm not sure if it could be genetic... maybe something didn't quite form right when it was in the egg? Glad to hear it's doing alright and eating a lot! Make sure you spoil it completely rotten.

I just had a thought about gapeworm... but it doesn't quite fit because your baby is still eating. But here's the Wikipedia article on it, if you want to look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gapeworm I really hope it isn't, the description sounds soooo unpleasant. Ew.

Oh my lol yes very discripted. I see it hold a little strut today. I can't get over the thought of having a gobble less Turkey. Lol

I'd like to know how this turkey fared. I have a baby poult that is is mostly mute. If she really puts her mind to it, she can peep, but there is none of the normal turkey chat I get from teh other poults. She just opens her beak and puffs.

This turkey turned out fine. Doesn't commute well with other turkeys cause of the lack of communication. She wound up being a Hen raising chicks this year for me. She stays close to the house and doesn't wander off. But other wise a ok. If she tries to talk it's puffs of air but she hasn't tried in a very long time. Hard life for a mute but an amazing mother.

I just bought a bourbon red turkey from show breeders. I'm pretty sure it's a boy. But its mute and cannot make noise at all. It just makes very faint hissing noises like it's trying to talk but can't. He hates us so much and tried to bite when we first got him. For age, idk but he's just now getting the upper chest feathers. I'm scared with this lil guy tho. He always breathes through his mouth like he's gasping for air. But sneezes constantly too. He has what looks like a scratch on his face and his nose looks like someone took a bite out of it. Idk if it is sick or a genetic problem or both? Just found out my chicks have coccidiosis from Tractor Supply (never buying chicks from there again ffs) so now all my chicks and other poults are sneezing too. Idk whats wrong but all the chickens and turkeys outside are sneezing too
