I bought a couple of turkey poults from the local feed store a few weeks ago! I did not notice any sign of injury or issue at time of purchase. About 2 days after purchase, I noticed one of them had a eye that he would not keep open. I check his eye out and it looked in good shape. I thought maybe he had gotten pecked or something in it, so I let him go. He was acting fine, eating and drinking, but the eye was still closed with no signs of infection. 3 days ago,I noticed that the eye and the area around it is swollen and has eye goop. I am currently wiping the eye area 4 to 6 times a day and treating it with some eye drops that my eye dr. gave me for my eyes after I wipe them out. This seems to be helping, but is there any other course of treatment that I can take? I would like to save him and not have to cull him out, but if it seems that he is suffering I will do what I need to. It is swollen to the point his beak is crooked a bit, but he is still eating and drinking and being a turkey. The vets in my area only will order meds if I need them, but they are not poultry vets( Common problem I am finding) . Any ideas or suggestions would be appreicated.
