Can a hen and tom both change the size of their snoods? I have a 4 month old narragansett who is still stumping me on gender. She/he will strutt and puff/hiss at my other males. I have tried so many other tactics but still stumped. I noted the big round eyes, thinner legs, more elegant body and head shape, but today I noticed as I was "chaulking" back at her she would elongate her snood just a bit and when I stopped and stroked her neck she would draw it back up. I say she because I bought her as a she... Any suggestions?????

well I think I have narrowed it down,, my best promising guess is its a girl.. I visited a friends farm and examined his turkey and I'm alittle more sure its a hen , fingers crossed...

If its 4 months old, you should be able to tell by plumage as well. Toms will appeqar darker, and the breast feathers will be trimmed in white or light gray for hens and have darker edges in males. Also look for the back of the neck to be slightly feathered in females. The snood should not change in size very much. In fact, female snoods should look like a small finger stuck on the nose, and male snoods should look much thicker and stumpier when not extended.

My Bourbon Reds are little over 4 months now and it is easy to tell the feathers and the color and size the Toms are almost twice the size of the Hens I mean big butts and the man dancing from the Toms is almost non stop LOL.

Yea ,, well ,,, as I was wanting my narragansett to be a beautiful girl,,,,,,,,, She gobbled
