The section about the increased growth rates applies to broad breasted varieties and does not apply to heritage varieties since no effort has been made to turn heritage varieties into a fast growing turkey.

Why do so many people think eggs are high in protein?

It is because it is an old wive's tale and has been repeated so many times that it is very difficult to get it stopped. The thing that is true however is that crumbled hard boiled eggs are an excellent addition for any fowl especially newly hatched ones.

We just hatched out a few poults Monday! Super cute. Wanted mommy to do it, but she kept breaking the eggs. She's a bull in a China shop. lol

That sounds like a broad breasted hen. It is amazing to watch a heritage turkey hen as she circles her feet and steps very gently around her eggs and poults.

Yes, Big Booty Judy is a broad breasted Bronze. We raise thanksgiving birds for family & friends. We are seriously considering adding a heritage breed...as soon as we can agree on one!! Lol

My elders used to feed 1 day poults with a mix of hard boiled eggs and fresh goat cheese(low in fat), adding later steamed nettle leafs. Now many of us using starter feeds.
