I have only raised the BB white turkeys once, but they will get very attached to people.

I didn't know turkeys were that way. Thank you for the info!

Even follow you around until you feed them.
And they eat A TON of food.
They will not free range if you let them out of their coop.

Right now I have them on chick starter that's 30% protein I think, the Purina brand from TSC. Do they have to have special food like ducks when they are babies? Or maybe all flock?

There is no such thing as a 30% protein chick starter. TSC does sell Purina 30% protein Game Bird Starter. Hopefully that is what you got.

The BBWs need the good stuff for at least the first two weeks in order to give them a good start.

The Purina Game Bird Starter has everything they need including the higher levels of lysine, methionine and niacin.

If you want them to grow fast and reach processing size fast, you can keep them on the Game Bird Starter for the full 6 to 8 weeks recommended.

After that a good quality all flock feed is fine.

If you add cracked corn to their diet when they are finishing up, it will give them a deep yellow fat.

They were marked as Heritage Breed Turkeys Straight Run.

At TSC that may not mean anything. They may or may not be a heritage variety. If they are white, they are most likely BBW.

FYI, all domestic turkeys are the breed Turkey.
