By something getting into the food, they mean that the tweetie birds are coming by and helping themselves to the feeder, or maybe mice are getting it. They don't necessarily have to have access to your storage in order to eat the food.

The only figure I've seen is 5 pounds of food a week for a 15 pound turkey. It looks to me like your turkeys are eating about the correct amount.

They are big, fast growing birds. They can't live and grow on air. They have to be fed.
