I picked up 1 Turkin with a batch of chicks on Tues. It sure is a strange looking thing. My best description is a camel with 2 legs. He walks different, acts different and is really friendly. Are there things I should look for in raising it that would be different than all other chicks? Would you share your experiences with this breed. I love stories. John

I have noticed that my Turken chicks are WAY more curious that other chicks! They will come to the side of the brooder and chase my finger while the others will stay to the back acting scared! I love these guys!

I have to second the curious factor. I just got a hideous buff Turken hen, but she is so endearing (my sister named her Dorthy), and curious that we decided not to turn her into supper. Besides, she lays this monster large egg. They do move and act a little strangely, but I haven’t had any issues about keeping them with the other birds.

They may be weird looking but I think they are cute ( my husband laughed and said "you like those ugly things?". I just ordered some and they should be here soon!!

My only worry is the cold we get here in Ohio. Stoney's states thay handle cold fairly well but it doesn't say how cold. So far this winter it has gotten down to 4 degrees in the early morning and my other birds take it in stride. Will I have to coop up the Turkin when it gets that cold or colder again?

I haven't been having any troubles with my girl, and I am in North Western PA rather close to Ohio. I haven't been really paying attention to exact temperatures, but I would imagine they are similar to what you are experiancing. Hopefully, you have less snow!
