Turned my chicken into a nighttime hunter!

My normal routine is to go out to the chicken coop at dusk to shut the door. Often, there are 2-3 of my hens lounging on the outside of the coop. After I make them get down, they’ll usually hop up into the coop on their own. The other night when I did this, I had a flashlight and shined it on the ground for one of my hens to get a cricket. For some reason, we recently have been having a ton of crickets and roaches out by the coop at night. The next couple nights, she hops down when she sees me coming so I can find crickets for her. Last night, I went back inside before shutting the coop and forgot about it. When I remembered around midnight, I looked out the window and saw her walking around hunting for crickets in the dark!

That’s great ! My rooster finds crickets grabs them , drops them then calls the girls over to eat it , it is amazing to watch .

Is your yard dark at night? We have a yard light so our chickens can still see ,

That’s good natural protein for them
