Turning eggs

So, when useing a bator with the automatic egg turner it just rocks them back and forth and doesn't actually turn them over is that right? I remember as a kid that we turned them over side to side, is this rocking back and forth all they really need? I'm still having a hard time deciding which bator to get, and what I need to get with it.

yes, rocking back and forth. It turns pretty far in each direction, maybe forty five degrees to the left and the right.
