Hi

I have 12 Tuxedo Coturnix set and its at day 17, but theirs still no sign of hatching how long do they normally take?

Thanks very much

Have you tried to candle the eggs before now? If so were they growing/fertile? Do you hear any peeping, see any pips? The rule for hatching that I go by is usually something like "expect them a day early but don't worry until two days after the hatch date" :) Keep us updated!

Hi yes candled but it was very difficult to see saw veins though

No sign of peeping or pips yet fingers crossed I suppose theres still a few days left yet?

Thanks

Mine have always hatched on day 18. You could try tapping the fat end of an egg and holding that end up to your ear. If it has pipped internally you will hear it trying to break through the egg, tapping back at you. Just make sure you are somewhere quiet. Sometimes you can even feel them wriggling in the shell when you pick the egg up. Just be conscious of not keeping them out too long as the humidity is important so the inner membrane doesn't start to dry out which can make it hard to break through or even suffocate them (referred to as 'shrink wrapping' the chick). Good luck - let us know how you get on.

5 have hatched so far along with a button :) there is 7 more tuxedo eggs left to hatch and 3 button eggs ::)
